Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty operations are made both for aesthetic and functional objectives and it is one of the most preferred operations in our country. The operation is made in order to restore the nose deformities, give the nose a natural and aesthetic appearance and to solve breathing problems. During the operations made for aesthetic objectives, those aiming at solving breathing problems are called Functional Rhinoplasty. The rhinoplasty operations solve problems such as nose curvatures, fractures, cracks and deformities caused by accidents, strikes and injuries.

How is rhinoplasty operation decided on?

Rhinoplasty operation can be applied to people who are not pleased with the appearance of their nose and to repair damages occurring due to accident and different illnesses. For this reason, as a first step of the rhinoplasty operation, the doctor examines the patient, the patient expresses his/her complaints and demands, and then the doctor diagnoses the problems in the nose. However, the type of aesthetic improvements may be decided after the examination. Face type, weight, features, distance between the eye and chin of the patient have a great importance in deciding the best nose structure. Thanks to special software, face type suitable for the person is viewed on the computer screen and then final decision is made.

How does rhinoplasty operation work?

Rhinoplasty operations are applied by using two different methods:
open and closed surgery. Since open operation technique enables the surgeon to operate visually and makes intervention to the middle nasal cartilage easy, making it the most preferred method as well. Regardless of the selected method, only the changes decided to be made before the rhinoplasty operation can be applied during the operation. In rhinoplasty operations, the most preferred practices can be listed as follows; restoring the arched bones, lifting the nasal tip, if necessary gaining volume by injection, rasping the nasal tip if it is long, restoring the intranasal elements, reconstructing the cartilages if the patient has saddle nose, and restoring the lopsidedness. Amendments decided are performed, then the incisions are closed and the operation ends.

What should be done after rhinoplasty?

Post-operative period is as important as the operation process itself. Thus, the patient should be patient and protect his/her nose until full recovery. The wound should be dressed regularly; the painkillers, anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous and respiratory medicines should be taken as prescribed by the doctor, and they should be taken without delay, and the patient should not work out or sleep face down for a while.

Who can have rhinoplasty?

People who can receive general anesthesia without having a problem, have stable health status and does not have any other health problem can readily have rhinoplasty operation. Suitability of the patient for the rhinoplasty is determined during the examination.

Are the results of rhinoplasty permanent?

If needed after the rhinoplasty operation, revision operations can be performed after the tissues renew themselves. However, results of the rhinoplasty operation, in general, are permanent.

How long does rhinoplasty take?

Rhinoplasty operations generally last for 1 or 2 hours.
